I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist with over 30 years' experience as a psychotherapist, supervisor and group facilitator. I worked for 26 years as a senior faculty member at a private training centre in North London, training students in counselling and psychotherapy. I use both an integrative therapeutic approach and a psychodynamic, emotionally focused approach (ISTDP), which means that I call upon an extensive range of maps, models and understanding from various theoretical systems, which include Psychosynthesis, Psychodynamic, Attachment-Based Theory, Gestalt and Mindfulness.
I work with adult individuals, couples and groups from diverse and varied backgrounds.
I offer both short and long-term therapy, tailored to meet your needs.
I am also a supervisor with over 20 years' experience, providing supervision to students, graduates and qualified practitioners.
For nearly 15 years I was involved with UKCP which is the umbrella body for counselling and psychotherapy professions in the UK. Amongst my many other roles with the organisation, I was the chair of HIPC Assessment Board for 10 years, and a trustee on UKCP Board of Trustees.
I have retired from my work with UKCP as well as from my work as a senior teacher/trainer and I now devote my professional life entirely to my private practice as a psychotherapist and a supervisor.
The ISTDP (Intensive Short Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy) approach is evidence based, brief term, dynamic and emotionally focused form of psychotherapy. Like psychodynamic psychotherapy, it aims to unlock and resolve the root causes for many psychological symptoms.
It can be used as an effective treatment for people suffering with anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship difficulties, self-defeating and self-destructive patterns of behaviour. It can also help resolve health problems that have a psychological origin.
My office is located in Central London. I also work online via Zoom or Skype.
‘Block therapy’ is an option for clients who are travelling from overseas or from further distances across the UK.
To begin the process you will need to contact me by email info@ofraanker.com, via telephone +44 (0)779 906 0748 or by using the contact form below.
I will arrange to see you for an initial consultation. This consulation session is a longer one, lasting two hours. During this time I will help you gain an understanding of your areas of emotional difficulty and you can get a clearer idea of the way I work.
At the end of this initial consultation, you will be able to decide whether to arrange further sessions with me and I will also provide an indication of the estimated number of treatment hours that are likely to be needed.
If you would like to book an appointment or find out more please contact me.
I am an experienced supervisor, offering individual and group supervision. I am flexible in my approach and supervises psychotherapists and counsellors who are qualified and experienced and also those who are still in training. I believe that supervision is fundamental in the welfare of the client. As a supervisor I facilitate a supportive climate for the supervisee to review their case load and reflect upon their clients. I encourage and support the supervisee to adopt a wider perspective in their work.
I offer therapeutic supervision to experienced counsellors and psychotherapists. The supervision consists of exploring the therapist’s personal impacts within the therapeutic relationship. I have many years of experience, working with the complexity and intricacy of the relationship between therapist and patient/client.
I provide mentoring; coaching; consultancy and teaching to individuals and groups. I make use of and combine coaching and mentoring techniques with psychotherapeutic ones, calling upon a wealth of knowledge and experience.
I am passionate about communication/relational skills and teaching individuals the art of:
Effective communication
Developing emotional intelligence
Developing inter and intra personal skills
How unconscious processes operate symbolically in daily life
Understanding what happens in groups’ dynamics
Building and creating confident working relations
